Our annual event is a full day of fishing from boats on Lake Springfield. The event is hosted at the TRN Club, a handicapped accessible facility. Capacity is limited to the first 55 participants that register, a $30 participant fee is due upon registration. The Participant’s day begins with arrival at 8 AM, rain or shine, and a light breakfast is available. The participant will meet with his/her pre-assigned boat captain and fishing guide. Volunteers and wheelchair ramps are on site to assist all participants in boarding their boat. Participants are required to be accompanied on the boat and throughout the day by an assistant/caretaker to tend to the specific requirements of their disability. Caretakers must register in advance, there is no participation fee for the caretaker.
At midday all boats will return to shore for everyone to enjoy lunch outdoors on a sheltered patio, share stories from the morning, relax, and use the handicapped accessible restrooms. After lunch the boats will load up for an afternoon of fishing. Boats will return at 3:30 PM and unload. Once everyone has returned and is settled in a meal is served followed by awards for the participants. Departure will be in the neighborhood of 5 PM.
The event is open to all disabled people regardless of their disability, race, age, or gender. No fishing experience is necessary, a fishing buddy/guide will be on each boat to assist with all aspects of fishing.
